In recent years, relatively speaking, the idea of Esperanto as playing a role in preserving and defending minority languages has become popular. On many occasions, I've made the same assertion (I wrote an article about it for this website). But I'm not sure I've ever solved in my mind how Esperanto would actually work in this role.
The North American Summer Esperanto Course (NASK) is June 29th to July 17th, 2009, in sunny San Diego, CA!

En mia lastatempa afiŝo pri la librolisto de Auld, Russ komentis, ke li hazarde legis la saman Esperantan libron, kiel mi. Estas evidente, ke ankaŭ aliaj legis la libron. Tio pensigis min, ĉu eblas starigi Esperantan "libroklubon?" Ni povas fari sufiĉe malformalan aferon:
(1) Elekti libron por marto kaj krei afiŝon por ĝi ĉe tiu ĉi retejo.
(2) Dum tiu monato afiŝi komentojn al tiu afiŝo por nia diskuto.
Ĉu estas aliaj rimedoj, kiuj ebligos pli da internacia partopreno aŭ estos pli avantaĝa el teknika vidpunkto?
A few weeks ago, I blogged about William Auld's list of "Esperantaj Klaskiaĵoj", an excellent starting point for explorations into Esperanto literature. Yesterday, at the back of the two-volume Trezoro, I found a slightly different list. I knew there were at least two different versions of the list. I'm not certain of the revision history, though, since neither list has a creation date attached.
In wandering the Esperanto-USA bookstore today, I saw that the Esperanta Antologio is available for $13.80. This is a great deal for a great book. I think I paid more than twice that for my copy several years ago.
In 1988, the famed Esperanto poet William Auld produced a list of "Esperanto Classics" -- essentially the Esperanto canon as he saw it. He updated the list in 1997. The list, even with its flaws, is a great starting point for exploring Esperanto literature.
Here's the list with links to Esperanto-USA's bookstore for titles in stock. Some of these texts are also available from other book services (like UEA's) or even for free on the Internet -- I'll update the list with links that I find or that others bring to my attention.

Esperantists have succeeded in the first round of voting at change.org. The proposal to "Introduce Esperanto as a foreign language subject in schools" has entered the second round of voting. Should it be one of the top 10 most popular proposals in the second round, then the individuals behind Change.org will make sure that it gets the full attention of the Obama administration.
What if the proposal succeeds at the level of our wildest hopes? What if, shortly after Obama takes office, Esperanto is introduced as a foreign language subject in schools?
