The beginning of this article is my ramblings on the fantastic LK, but at the end I mention a bit about the resurrection of USEJ and the prospects of having a midwest kongreso.
I can't recommend to you enough to participate in E-USA's Landa Kongreso. I came with 4 others from my university, of widely varying levels, and I can easily assert that each had a wonderful time, learned much, and made those special kinds of relationships that seem to characterize those found in Esperantujo. Instant friendship, immediate closeness and trust. Overall, I think we're a pretty interesting group. It makes babilado a whole lot better.
I personally attended many of the presentations (though I didn't make a single Skype-meeting which I do regret), while my friends generally kept to the more discussion-based activities and structured lessons. I enjoyed each, but they are on too varying of topics for me to want to discuss in this single post. Very inspiring and illuminating, however. It was exciting to see the faces behind some of the biggest projects going on in E-USA and Esperantujo.
There were games of all kinds (even Apples to Apples translated into E-o, amazingly), movies, and the fantastic book service in the realm of media. I drooled probably hours over the array of books, cds/dvds, pins, etc there. They're just so infinitely more tempting when I see them in the flesh/pulp. :-) Next time I'll have to recall to ask the university to give us funding for bookbuying. It might work...
I could speak all day on the AMAZINGNESS of all the different aspects of the trip (including eating out together, hanging out till all hours of the night, etc) but I must emphasize the astounding kindness of the people there. Individuals handed me several books for the group (adding to the small library we're amassing, which may well become a sort of midwest lending library or something) and even money on occasion. For the record, I promise that no embezzling was involved. :-) I have a loooong list of people I'd like to thank, including an anonymous donor who paid for my group to attend the banquet. Otherwise the names and deeds are too long to mention. Thank you all!
The LK was an amazing experience and I'm definitely going to bring many people next year. USEJ, the US Esperanto Youth Organization, is starting up again thanks to discussions which happened at the LK. Hopefully as more gets fleshed out I'll be able to blog some about that! Expect things like: humorous videos, sassy T-shirts, and other items of mayhem. Stay tuned!
Also in the works: a Midwest Kongreso. I personally would prefer that we have it sometime in the winter, so that I can devote a lot of time during my winter break to help run it. Anyone interested in helping/attending just leave a comment or email me at deerawzzz@gmail.com. If it looks feasible this year, we'll start a mailing list or something to get all the details worked out.
